LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Hometown Rising and Bourbon and Beyond brought in millions to Louisville to enjoy the sweet sounds of music. Now, the Trifesta continues with Louder Than Life this weekend.

These festivals highlight a growing music scene. John Timmons, the former owner of ear X-tacy record store who is now a host on WFPK radio, said this has been a music city for years.

"One of the first things that impressed me when I moved back here in 1976 was the local music scene. I've seen it really grow and blossom. It's always been good, but, over the years, there's been more and more emphasis and support of local music," Timmons said.

He said it is hard to put a finger on why exactly that is, but support from local businesses sure helps.

"Record stores supported local music. Radio stations like WFPK play local artists all the time," Timmons said.

We are now in a time with so many music festivals, but Timmons reacalls what he thinks sparked this all.

"In 2002, a young kid put on a festival in Tyler Park. It's called Forecastle," Timmons said.

That festival continued to grow over the years, potentially inspiring other festival organizers to bring their acts to Louisville. In 2015, Louisville even landed a spot on Louisville's "Best Music Scenes" list.

The music mecca narrative is one Louisville Tourism will continue to grow.
