The day after a child psychologist retired from a 35-year career, David Calaiacovo, 61, was arrested on child pornography charges.

The arrest was made based on tips received by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children working in partnership with the Homeland Security Investigations office in Buffalo.

In all, six reports were made suggesting Calaiacovo was in possession of child pornography. His computers were seized on June 27 as a search warrant was executed on his Hamburg home. At least 400 images of underage and pre-pubescent children were found on his computers.

U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy said there’s no evidence at this point to suggest Calaiacovo had any inappropriate contact with children during his tenure as a psychologist, a career that was mostly spent in elementary schools. His last position was with Allendale Elementary School in the West Seneca School District.

“I think prudence requires that we get this message out to the public that parents can have conversations with their children to determine whether any contact occurred,” Kennedy said.

Anyone with information is urged to call a tipline, 716-464-6070, and official stressed that there’s no detail too big or too small to be of use to them in their investigation.
