The Kentucky Theatre is a familiar landmark to generations of people from Lexington and other parts of the Bluegrass since it opened in 1922.
“It makes you feel like you’re coming to an event,” said Fred Mills. Mills has worked at the Kentucky Theatre since 1963.
The historic place is a frequent spot for Carolyn Sears. She makes it a point to visit the Kentucky Theatre with her family at least once a week.
“I like something that engrosses me,” Sears said.
The Kentucky Theatre offers a different and often missed experience that current mega theatres are missing. The cinema shows everything from blockbusters to indie films on their two screens. But, people like Sears really enjoy the Summer Classic series the theatre showcases.
Mills has a front row seat to the generations of people who enjoyed a movie inside to escape for a few hours.
“Grandparents have brought their children here,” said Mills. “Those children now are bringing their children.”
Mills said the establishment fills a void that would be sorely missed by movie buffs.
“If the Kentucky Theatre wasn’t here, there would be many films that wouldn’t come to Lexington,” he said.
