LEXINGTON, Ky --- As the government shut down continues into day 33, furloughed federal employees in the Commonwealth are speaking out and demanding action from Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell.

The American Federation of Government Employees organized a rally Wednesday outside Mcconnell’s Congressional office in Lexington.

This the second week in a row that Kentucky based federal employees and supporters protested outside the Senator's office.

Rally organizers say the goal of the rally was to bring more awareness to how the shutdown is having an effect on families in Kentucky and across the nation.

Shortly after the rally started, police officers were called by building management to escort the protestors from McConnell's office.

The U.S Senate is scheduled to vote Thursday on a plan to re-open the government and fund border security.
