After filing his paperwork to run Thursday, Adam Edelen officially announced his campaign for governor Monday.

Edelen made the announcement at stops in Lexington in the afternoon, and then Louisville later in the evening.

During his campaign announcement Edelen promised a new era of leadership and innovation.

“The days of Kentucky being beholden to our past are over. Together, with the help and hard work of every Kentuckian, we are going to begin writing the next bright chapter in the story of our Commonwealth,” Edelen said in a release. “I’m asking you to join us as and push back against the voices who have told us Kentucky’s best days are behind us and rediscover our God-given ability to lead. That’s the Kentucky I believe we can build together and I’m humbled and honored to ask the opportunity to work for you.”

Edelen served as State Auditor from 2011-2015. Now in the private sector, Edelen has focused on renewable energy. Lately, he's been working to bring solar energy to the Appalachia. The solar installation is to be built by out of work coal miners on a mountaintop removal site.

Edelen has vowed to not take any money from PACs.

The former State Auditor will be running with Louisville developer and filmmaker Gill Holland. Holland is responsible for the revitalization of the NuLu neighborhood in Louisville.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to offer Kentuckians a real chance to help build the Kentucky our people deserve,” Holland said in a release. “Simply put Adam is the right person, at the right time, for the right job– moving Kentucky forward. Running with him for the Democratic nomination is an honor I’m excited about working with my fellow Kentuckians to meet the challenges ahead of us.”

Currently, Attorney General Andy Beshear and House Minority Leader Rocky Adkins have announced they will run for the Democratic nomination. Geoff Young is expected to announce Tuesday.
