BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Louisville rap artist Jack Harlow recently finished his “No Place Like Home” Tour, hitting up six cities across Kentucky.
During a stop in Owensboro, Harlow checked out the Wonder Whip, a classic burger joint in town.
Since 2015, Seth Woodward has been the owner and operator of Wonder Whip. Woodward was helping his employees with orders when he got a phone call from Harlow. Harlow said he was in town and he was hungry.
Woodward said, “I’ll be honest, I thought ‘Is this a prank? Is this really for real?’”
But sure enough, the phone call was not a prank.
Woodward said, “An hour or two after the phone call, I’m here and the crew is here, and they say ‘Well, there’s Jack Harlow walking across the parking lot!’”
Harlow ordered a double cheeseburger, French fries and a banana split.
Woodward said, “That’s quite a bit of food, I’m guessing he was hungry.”
Wonder Whip has been a staple in Owensboro since it opened in 1955.
Woodward said, “We’ve been in the same building, same place for almost 70 years. Our menu has pretty much never changed since that time.”
The menu features all-American favorites, including burgers, fries and ice cream desserts and all of which has earned them a loyal fanbase.
Woodward said, “When we have a lot of people or customers waiting to do business with us, that’s pretty much the best compliment you can get.”
But never in recent time has an internationally known celebrity ever dropped by for a visit.
Woodward said, “When you have someone with a global fanbase, decide and come try your product, it gives you some sort of feeling that your work pays off.”
Wonder Whip is on 2434 East 4th Street in Owensboro, Kentucky. They are open Monday through Thursday at 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
