KENTUCKY — DeNora Getachew, an expert on Gen Z and millennial voters, and CEO of DoSomething.org, the nation’s leading hub for youth activism, joins this In Focus Kentucky segment to weigh on how she thinks young voters will impact Kentucky's election.

Last fall, voters in Kentucky voted against the Republican’s legislative majority rejecting an amendment to the state’s constitution outlawing abortion. According to recent data, Gen Z and Millennial voters have consistently shown strong support for abortion rights, and DoSomething’s get-out-the-vote operation has engaged its more than 30,000 members in Kentucky to vote this November.

"We're engaging with 200,000 young people in states nationwide this year who are getting ready to vote in upcoming elections and what we're hearing some Kentuckians in particular, about 32,000 Do something members who live in the great state of Kentucky is it they're really concerned about what's on the ballot as a relates to potentially taking away the access to health care and to abortion access in particular in the state of Kentucky. And so, with young people, you know, this has been a consistent issue of importance to them. One that we saw increased fervor around and the aftermath of the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the US Supreme Court last year and it was a motivating factor and then 2022 election cycle for young people to vote. We believe that this will also continue to be a motivating factor for young people come out and vote this year in the 2023 election cycle and it's one issue of importance to watch," explains Getachaw.
