LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Kentucky State Fair each year draws close to 600,000 visitors from across Kentucky for the once-a-year opportunity to experience fair food, music, animals, exhibits, entertainment and much more.

During this In Focus Kentucky, state’s Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles (R) talked about the impact the fair has on Kentucky’s tourism and economy.

"Louisville is a wonderful host city for this well over a century tradition here. And we bring in about a half million people and if it's a good year, 600,000 people onto the onto the fairgrounds each year which has an economic impact of about $10 million. But for a lot of the folks that come here, it's about competition. We have a lot of 4-H and FFA groups competing, not just for bragging rights, but for over $100,000 in scholarship money. And this is also a place for us to welcome people that may have never stepped foot on a farm in their life to come out to the fairgrounds, ride some rides, eat some incredible food. There's always cheat days, you can have whatever you want here, and then also go home with maybe a greater appreciation about Kentucky agriculture," explains Commissioner Quarles.
