KENTUCKY — Recently, Mayor Linda Gorton spoke on In Focus Kentucky about the city of Lexington’s partnership with the Commonwealth’s flagship college, the University of Kentucky.

In particular, Gorton shared that UK’s efforts and partnership with the city on COVID-19 vaccinations has aided in helping sustain the community’s economy.

"UK is our most wonderful partner. You know, they're our largest employer and Fayette County, and many people will remember that when I came into office I wanted to have my inauguration at the University of Kentucky and I did so with the agreement and the blessing of Dr. Eli Capilouto, who has been a wonderful partner. We do a lot of things in partnership and in tandem with UK and it's very important because we are all in this community together," Gorton said.

"We are getting ready very soon this summer to take control of the 200 acres of land at Coldstream Farm that was part of the land swap with the University of Kentucky. They needed to have control of some of the roads that were internally at UK which we controlled and we needed economic development land, so we did the swap. We gave them control of the roads. We'll get control of that 200 acres which will be wonderful for new businesses, for growing businesses," she added.
