KENTUCKY — June 11th, 2021 is the date that Kentucky's mask mandate and capacity restrictions will come to an end.
This announcement from Gov. Andy Beshear came just one day after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released new guidance that allows fully vaccinated Americans to stop wearing masks indoors at most places, effectively immediately.
During this In Focus Kentucky segment, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear talks about reopening Kentucky’s economy and the data that factored into landing on June 11 as the date to end final capacity restrictions related to COVID-19.
"We believe we're going to be in a place that is relatively safe to eliminate all capacity restrictions and to eliminate the masked mandate or everyone. We did so that way by providing one last month, which would give kids 12 to 15 who just got authorized to get the vaccine, a chance to get vaccinated. And over 30,000 of them already have in that period of time, as well as adults that maybe it just been a little casual about it, but knew that their exposure would increase after June 11. We've seen our vaccination numbers double during that period of time, so we think it's both the right decision to get back to normal but to also give people enough time to get protected. It's following the science and we're excited about how we're not just getting back to normal, we're actually seeing more hope and optimism and excitement especially economically," says Gov. Beshear.
