KENTUCKY — She’s been a strong voice for women and helped bring representation from all ethnicities to the political table.

Attica Scott of Louisville is a Democratic member of the Kentucky House of Representatives. She was first elected to this position in 2016 and was the first African American woman elected to the Kentucky legislature in 20 years. Before holding this position, Scott also served on the Louisville Metro Council from 2011 to 2015.

Scott works as a community organizer on the issues of racial equality and criminal justice.

During this In Focus Kentucky segment, Scott discusses a wide range of topics including recapping the 2021 Kentucky General Assembly legislative session, explaining her decision to run for public office, and shares why she feels it is important to have a month dedicated to celebrating women’s history.

"Women's History Month is similar for me to Black History Month, in that it's that one month that's dedicated for, you know, a lot of focus around the impact of women on our history in the United States, and I'm also clear that that one month is where we put a lot of attentional focus, but all year round we're looking at the contributions of women throughout our society, in our community. So, it may be one month, but it's a month that has impact all year round," explained Scott.
