KENTUCKY — 94 out of Kentucky’s 120 counties are now listed as "red zone" counties, as of November 15, 2020.
Governor Andy Beshear is asking anyone who lives within these counties to take added precautions as it relates to COVID-19.
“This is the toughest spot we’ve been in so far. Please follow those red zone county recommendations and school recommendations. You must do your part. If you are not wearing a mask, you are putting yourself at personal risk. We cannot let this escalation continue. Everybody’s got to pull their weight. Come on, Team Kentucky. Too many of us are hurting and too many of us are dying,” says Beshear
If your county falls into the "red zone," that means, your county has 25 or more average daily coronavirus cases, per 100,000 people.
In October, the state health department released the following "Red Zone Reduction Recommendations":
- Employers allow employees to work from home when possible
- Noncritical government offices to operate virtually
- Reduce in-person shopping: Order online or curbside pickup
- Order takeout: Avoid dining in restaurants or bars
- Prioritize businesses that follow and enforce mask mandate and other guidelines
- Reschedule, postpone or cancel public and private events
- Do not host or attend gatherings of any size
- Avoid nonessential activities outside of your home
- Reduce overall activity and contacts, and follow existing guidance, including 10 steps to defeat COVID-19
Unlike the statewide mask/face covering mandate, the new guidelines for red counties are recommendations only.
