LOUISVILLE, Ky. — State Sen. Gerald Neal (D-33), who represents part of Louisville, tested positive for coronavirus. According to a statement from Senate Democratic Leadership, he received the diagnosis late Monday evening.

After experiencing mild symptoms, Neal admitted himself to the hospital. 

"Neal is a champion and fighter for his community in the state legislature. He’s already calling people from the hospital talking about bills for the next session and organizing meetings he still plans to attend virtually," read the statement. "We fully expect Sen. Neal to overcome this and return to the Senate to continue fighting for the constituents of District 33 and the entire commonwealth.”

Senate Minority Leader Morgan McGarvey (D-19) reacted to Neal's diagnosis on Twitter.

Neal's positive test follows state Rep. Attica Scott's (D-41) announcement that she tested positive for coronavirus Sunday.
