FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentuckians can expect more actions aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19 today, said Gov. Andy Beshear (D).

What You Need To Know

  • Beshear to announce new steps for tackling coronavirus Monday

  • Coronavirus cases in Kentucky continue to rise

  • Other steps previously announced such as limit on social gatherings, travel advisory

This weekend, the commonwealth reported its second-highest daily total with 836 more positive cases. The highest one-day total was 979 cases July 19.

“I will not let us become an Alabama, a Florida or an Arizona,” Beshear said at a news conference yesterday. “We’ve got to take proactive steps and that’s what we’re trying to do.”

News outlets reported that among the topics Beshear will address on Monday are public schools.

This announcement follows new limits on social gatherings and a travel advisory to stop rising cases from last week. Earlier in the month, Beshear ordered most people to wear face coverings in public.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some — especially older adults and people with existing health problems — it can cause more severe illness and be fatal.
