The Marriott and Hotel Distil, run by White Lodging, announced in March they would furlough employees for less than six months. Now, given the economic impact brought on by the pandemic, furloughs will be extended past the six month mark.

"At the time, White Lodging full antipcated and expected to bring back these employees to work within six months," wrote White Lodging's Chief Human Resources Officer Michael Fischer to the Kentucky Career Center. "However, given the unprecedented length of the pandemic and continued downturn of the travel and hospitality industry, it is now reasonably forseeable that these temporary actions may extend beyong six months."

All affected employees were notified of the extension July 2 and were told a date White Lodging expects to call them back.

In addition to the furloughs, 16 Marriott and 27 Hotel Distil employees were terminated in April.
