KENTUCKY — Gov. Andy Beshear (D) issued several orders, one allowing circuit court clerks to continue providing certain driver's licenses services remotely until Sept. 30 and ending the 90-day expiration date extension July 7.

What You Need To Know

  • Circuit court clerks can continue to provide diver's licenses services remotely through Sept. 30

  • Credentials lost or expired on or after July 7, 2020 will not have 90-day renewal extension

  • Those lost or expired between March 18 and July 6 will still receive 90-day extension

  • Residents will replace or renew their credentials using remote application process

Under the orders, driver's licenses, permits and IDs that expire or are lost on or after July 7, 2020 will not have a 90-day renewal extension. Residents must use the remote application process by the Office of Circuit Court Clerk in the county they live.

However, driver's licenses, permits and IDs that expired or were lost between March 18 to July 6, 2020 will automatically have a 90-day extension to the card's expiration date. This means cardholders have 90 days from the expiration date to renew or replace their credential using the remote application process.

The remote renewal process, as of right now, will be in place until Sept. 20, 2020

Beshear closed in-person government services in March because of the pandemic, suspending driver's license services. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Secretary Jim Gray also issued an order giving residents a 90-day extension on licenses which expired during the closure. Driver's license services reopened June 1 under the Judicial Branch's safety requirements for reopening courts.
