LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Kentucky continues its phased reopening this week. Starting Monday, child care centers and low contact youth sports can resume. This comes after months of closure because of coronavirus concerns.

What You Need To Know

  • Child care centers, some youth sports reopen Monday

  • No more than 10 kids per group

  • Low-touch sports starting.

  • High-touch sports can hold small workouts

Last week, in-home child care centers were able to resume subject to new health restrictions. Starting Monday, center-based licensed child care programs and day camps can reopen. For parents who do send their kids back this week, things will look different.

There cannot be more than ten children per group. Kids need to stay with the same group of kids all day so they are not intermingled with other classes. The same staff members are to work with the same children every day to reduce additional exposure. Playground time will be staggered by the classroom. The centers will have to use a centralized pick-up and drop-off location. The state has more guidelines listed on the Healthy at Work website.

Some low touch youth sports can also start back up Monday. Indoor sports that fall under that category include track and field, tennis, golf, horseback riding, cross-country, baseball, and softball. Indoor sports on that list include gymnastics, swimming, diving, bowling, dance, and archery. Those sports can resume practices and workouts without competition. All practices should have no more than ten kids.

High touch sports can hold small workouts and training with ten kids or less and no more than one coach for the group. Those high touch sports include karate, martial arts, basketball, cheerleading, team dance, ice hockey, volleyball, fencing, and wrestling. There are more guidelines posted on the state's Healthy at Work website.
