LOUISVILLE, Ky- Governer Matt Bevin and Attorney General Andy Beshear met face to face on Wednesday in Kentucky's first public gubernatorial forum.

The forum was hosted by the Kentucky Farm Bureau.  Board members were able to ask the pair their stances on issues important to the agricultural community.

It was the first time the two appeared on the same stage together in the 2020 general election campaign. The political rivals made up for lost time by trading barbs.

Bevin and Beshear were asked about budget, taxation, infrastructure and rural development. While answering each question, they made sure to attack the opponent.

In their closing statements, the pair used their alloted time to attack each other, while also sticking to their main campaign issues.

"The reality is, you blow a lot smoke, you make a lot of promises, you file a lot of lawsuits," Bevin said speaking to Beshear. "You fight this administration and you fight this state for political reasons, at the end of the day you all have a decision to make."

Democrat Beshear said he agrees with Republican Bevin that the audience does have a decision to make.

"What I hear often from the governor is you should choose the person that you would want to leave in charge of your company. Would  it be a person who would attack, bully and demean your employees, because teachers are the most important here in Kentucky," Beshear said.

"Would it be somebody that would hire their buddies to exorbitant salaries with your company's dollars like we have seen with Charles Grindle and your tax dollars. Would it be somebody who can't along with the COO, which the Lieutenant Governor here in Kentucky."

The two will meet again at the 2019 Fancy Farm event. It's set for Saturday, August 3 in Graves County.
