FRANKFORT- Adam Edelen officially filed to run for Governor Monday morning.

Edelen and running mate Gill Holland were joined by their wives as they filed the paperwork with the Secretary of State's office.

“From the moment we entered this race, we knew that to win we couldn’t just run a campaign, we’d have to build a movement,” Edelen said in a release. “That movement has started and it’s growing. As the only campaign not taking corporate PAC money, we are already thousands of people strong. It’s humbling, it’s exciting and it’s working.”

Edelen and Holland announced their candidacy on January 7th, and have already released a list of endorsements from several Louisville Metro Council members, Senate Minority Leader Morgan McGarvey and others.

“The outpouring of support we’ve seen in the past few weeks has been extraordinary,” said candidate for Lieutenant Governor Gill Holland in a release. “Offering the same safe, poll-tested ideas are not going to get Kentucky Democrats anything, except beat in November. If we’re going to move forward we’ve got to be willing to go out on a limb and talk straight with Kentucky. In the past three weeks we’ve already seen Kentucky Democrats are ready for something different.”

Attorney General Andy Beshear, House Minority Leader Rocky Adkins and Geoff Young have filed to run for the office as well.

The final day to file to run for statewide office is January 29th.
