BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The Reindeer Farm has opened up its front doors for the holiday season.

It’s an unusual sight: reindeer in Bowling Green, Kentucky. However, Jessica Anderson, the farm's owner, made it happen and claims it a "small miracle"

The reindeer come from Alaska. Anderson said they can easily adapt to Kentucky's climate and don’t grow winter coats as much as they would in Alaska. 

The farm originally was planned for just her family before she took it in a different direction.

“They were already here and on the farm, so we thought we would open it up to the public," Anderson said. 

The farm has a variety of animals, including pigs, chickens and ponies, but reindeer are the main attraction. Flea, 10, is a fan favorite and the oldest reindeer on-site. 

"They all have their own personalities, but this one here is pretty docile," said reindeer handler Zane McCauley. 

One may think raising a wild animal may not be so easy, but Anderson said it's the opposite. 

“It’s just spending time with them," Anderson said. "The more time you spend with any animal, just getting out here and being hands on, the more they trust you.”

The Reindeer Farm is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sundays.
