LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville athletic teams have a long history of giving back to the community. They have gone Christmas shopping with kids, collected food at games and read to students in classes. The men’s basketball team is getting set for a “Week of Giving.”

What You Need To Know

  •  The "Week of Giving" will take place at three home games from Dec. 14-20

  •  The first is a collection for the campus pantry

  •  The second is a toy collection for the 12th annual Kyle's Korner Toy Drive

  • The last is a winter clothing drive

The men will play three straight home games from Dec. 14-20 and will take part in three separate “community-focused initiatives.”

The first event is the Kroger Food Drive benefiting the UofL campus community on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at the game against Western Kentucky at 9 p.m. Staff will collect non-perishable food items and hygiene products at every entrance to the KFC Yum! Center. This is a partnership with Kroger and the Commonwealth Credit Union Cardinal Cupboard.

Next is the 12th annual Kyle’s Korner Toy Drive. Saturday, Dec. 17, the Cards take on Florida A&M at 2 p.m. Former Cardinal Kyle Kuric and his family spearhead the toy drive. They will collect new or lightly used toys at the entrances. The toys are being split this year between the Home of the Innocents and eastern Kentucky flood victims.

Kuric started Kyle’s Korner for Kids in 2011 when he was still a UofL student. He currently plays for the Euro League with FC Barcelona in Spain.

The Cardinals “Week of Giving” ends with a winter clothing drive Tuesday, Dec. 20. The Cards and the KFC Yum! Center are coming together to collect winter clothes at the entrances. This will help those in need in the local community. The Cards play Lipscomb at 6 p.m.
