LEXINGTON, Ky. — Several Fayette County Public Schools (FCPS) have been evacuated after receiving bomb threats, district spokeswoman Lisa Deffendall said in an email to Spectrum News 1. The schools evacuated are Frederick Douglass, Henry Clay, Lafayette and Paul Laurence Dunbar high schools.

Deffendall said the evacuations were "out of an abundace of caution." All students and staff have safely evacuated and gathered in the football stadiums, she said. Students will remain at the stadiums until the end of the day, at which time the district will follow its regular dismissal procedures.

Law enforcement officers are inspecting the buildings for any potential threat before students will be allowed to return, Deffendall added. She said law enforcement informed the district that a complete inspection of the buildings will take several hours.

The district is asking families not to come to campus. All afterschool activities are canceled.
