LOUISVILLE, Ky. - It's a fraction of the size of Louisville's massive vaccination site near Cardinal Stadium.
On Thursday Norton Healthcare hosted a vaccine clinic at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Louisville's Buechel Neighborhood. The goal is to provide up to 500 shots of the Pfizer vaccine to predominantly Hispanic residents.
“Today you’re going to get the vaccine, the Pfizer vaccine, your first initial shot," a Norton registered nurse said to a patient. The clinic is staffed with interpreters and many bilingual nurses.
“We have bilingual staff that are registering people in the system and they are scheduling their follow up vaccination," Marissa Shearon of Norton Healthcare said.
Hannah Reier is one of the interpreters guiding patients through the process of registering and receiving the shot. “Yeah, any specific medical terms, things that probably don’t come up in day-to-day conversation," Reier explains. "It’s just helpful to have somebody there to give you the most precise interpretation of what that is.”
It’s a help and a comfort for residents like Yadira Melendez. Melendez says her husband and mother have already received the COVID-19 vaccine. A future clinic is scheduled for April, 17th at St. Rita Catholic Church at 8709 Preston Highway. Walk ins are welcomed and the vaccine is free.
