LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Lexington VA Health Care System is offering COVID-19 vaccines for the next three days to veterans ages 50 and up in their walk-up clinic.

Over 1,000 veterans got their first round of vaccines on Saturday at the Lexington Health Care System. Patrick Sinclair, a voluntary service officer, said it took a lot of work to put together but taking care of their veterans is what the VA does best.

“A lot of the veterans that are coming in today are our veterans that we see on a daily basis. And we enjoy taking care of them, we enjoy those relationships,” Sinclair said.

Sinclair said veterans started lining up outside the doors as early as 6 a.m. The walk-in clinic is open to any Veteran over the age of 50.

“Our veterans are excited to get the vaccine. And they're excited to come up here to the Lexington VA and get it, and you get that, it shows just by the volume that we have today,” Sinclair said.

Veteran William Barber said he comes to the Lexington VA Center for all of his medical needs. Barber waited around three hours to get his vaccine and said even though he was nervous to get the shot, he was also grateful to get the vaccine and hopefully taking one step closer to protecting him and his mom from the virus.

“My mom is 99 and I'm 81. And I want to get it. And I encouraged her to go on and get it too, so that’s why I am getting it,” Sinclair said.

The Lexington VA Health Care system plans to host the walk-in clinic Sunday, Jan. 17 as well as Monday, Jan. 18 from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. Anyone that received the shot today will have to return to the clinic in three weeks for the second round of shots.

Lexington VA Health Care System will be posting updates on their Facebook with any changes that may be made throughout the next couple of days.
