LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Derby City CrossFit in Louisville is helping its members stay healthy and fit at home with remote coaching during this time of self-quarantine. It’s also looking out for the community with a campaign it launched called Caring is Contagious.

“You know there’s no time like this in our history, and we kind of got to rise above,” said co-owner Slater Coe.

Caring is Contagious allows members and non-members of this Louisville CrossFit gym to donate any amount they wish to help.

“We will then donate that money to members who lost their jobs, can’t afford mortgages, can’t afford rent, maybe have health insurance, grocery bills coming up that they are afraid of paying as well.,” Coe said.

Coe said even though some people have canceled their memberships, Derby City CrossFit still has about 350 members, which is sustaining the business and its staff as they provide workouts remotely. Due to the circumstances, the gym has also given away 10 free memberships to members who can’t afford it at this time. Caring is Contagious is a way to help members financially with other personal bills.

“I’ve seen people donate to it that are not current members, which is pretty wild, as well,” Coe told Spectrum News 1.

Anyone can donate by simply submitting any amount to @derbycitycf on Venmo. Coe said 100 percent will be distributed to members in need. Only a week in, and Coe said $4,165 raised as of Saturday, and one Derby City CrossFit member has signed up so far to receive help.

“It’s tough because you just see people hurting, and it’s sad. So we’re trying to do everything we can to be helpful. That’s all,” Coe said.
