KENTUCKY - A new poll shows that Republican Governor Matt Bevin is in a dead heat with Democratic challenger Andy Beshear.

According to the just-released Mason Dixon Poll, 46% of the people polled said they would vote for Bevin, 46% said they would vote for Beshear, and 1% said they would vote for Libertarian candidate John Hicks.  The poll shows support for Bevin has grown since December. The poll credits Bevin's jump to President Donald Trump's popularity in Kentucky and resistance to impeachment.

Breaking down the poll by gender, 43% of men said they would vote for Beshear, with 51% saying they would vote for Bevin.

Beshear does better among women, with 49% saying they would vote for the Democrat and 41% saying they would vote for Bevin.

The poll looked at Bevin's job approval rating, and while it is still more negative than positive, his job rating has improved over the past year.

Voters were also asked who they would vote for if the election were held today.

The poll was conducted by telephone between October 10  through 13 among 625 Kentucky voters.

The general election is November 5.
