The Albany County Sheriff's Office says a county corrections officer has been arrested and accused of falsely reporting that a lit firework was thrown into his home.

Ryan Lawson was arrested Wednesday, according to Sheriff Craig Apple's office. Lawson had previously reported that, Saturday night in New Scotland, someone opened the front door of his home and threw the firework inside as he was with his wife and 4-year-old daughter. An area rug caught fire; the couple got the fire out with a pillow before much damage was caused and there were no injuries.

Investigators learned, according to the sheriff's office, that the firework was actually lit inside by a family member "and no outside person was involved."

Lawson is charged with one third-degree count of falsely reporting an incident. He will appear at a later date in New Scotland Town Court.
