Firefighters responded to a Raymertown home completely engulfed by flames before sunrise Tuesday.
Multiple crews responded to the home around 3:45 Tuesday morning, and water trucks needed to be brought in because of the remote location.
Officials say a family of six lives in the home. They say the family woke up to the the sound of smoke detectors, and everyone was able to make it out safely.
While an official cause of the fire hasn't been determined, crews on scene are focusing on a camp fire that was lit the night before on the porch of the home. Officials are now reminding residents about the active burn ban currently in effect throughout the region as a way to avoid potential tragedies.
"This was a small camp fire. But all I can stress is everything is dry right now. That's what we're having problems with," said Rensselaer County Director of Public Safety Jay Wilson. "And that's why the burn ban goes on until May 14. So I just stress that you make sure you adhere to the burn ban; wait until the date is over with. And once again, you gotta be vigilant after that. Make sure you have a source of water to put the fire out if you have to."
Authorities say two people have been taken to the hospital to be checked for possible smoke inhalation.
