Following a long day Tuesday, which featured multiple crime scenes, Wednesday was rather brief in the Federal Court. Three suspects, connected to the North Greenbush M & T Bank robbery, faced a judge.
Christopher Cohn, Ulysses Walls, and Quardel Valentine, are facing lengthy time behind bars. They are the men court documents allege are behind Tuesday morning’s armed robbery.
According to the criminal complaint, Cohn and Walls told Valntine they would pay him to be the driver. They told him they had successfully robbed banks in the past.
The complaint goes on to say, Cohn and Walls, both wearing ski masks and carrying firearms, including a 44 caliber black powder revolver, entered the bank around 11:30 a.m.
Witnesses say the two suspects threatened to kill staff, and surveillance video allegedly showed Walls put his arm around a staff member’s neck.
The complaint says Cohn and Walls took off with $10,000 but not before Cohn fired a shot in the air, according to interviews. Cohn later told police he fired several shots during the robbery. A bank teller was grazed by a bullet in the arm.
According to the complaint, an employee placed a bank GPS tracking device in with the money, leading police to the Albany Motel 6 on Watervliet Extension.
Cohn was taken into custody after attempting to flee, Walls was found in the lobby, and Valentine in the parking lot. Wednesday, law enforcement were still at the scene where the suspects were caught.
Walls and Cohn are charged with bank robbery and face 25 years behind bars. Valentine is charged with conspiracy, and faces five years in prison. All three are facing a $250,000 fine.
The defendants will be back in federal court Friday for a detention hearing.
