BERLIN, N.Y. -- Berlin school administrators responded to questions on student safety after a second threat was made toward the middle and high school in the past two weeks.

Authorities say the threat was overheard by other students at the Berlin Middle-High School around dismissal time Tuesday afternoon.

The school went into a shelter in place for 20 minutes as a precaution.

The student who made the comment was detained until state police could arrive.

Investigators don't believe the threats are related.

During Tuesday night's Board of Education meeting, administrators discussed the schools safety protocols.

Superintendent Stephen Young says the system in place right now is effective for students.

"We have our safety procedures in place, those aren't going to change. Students have routines that they practice with their administrators and building principals,” said Young.

They also want to remind students and parents if they hear or see something, say something.
