WESTCHESTER, Calif. — California families vacationing in Maui looked for the first flight out of the island after a devastating wildfire consumed the historical town of Lahaina.
Because of the rush of people evacuating the island, many were forced to spend nights at the airport.
Prior to the wildfire, tourists describe seeing powerful winds pulling tiles off roofs and knocking items over. Those winds fanning the flames that led to the rapid growth of the wildfire.
