LOS ANGELES — As a heatwave smothers Los Angeles, homeless people who find themselves on the streets of Skid Row with no shelter or respite from the heat must go into survival mode. One of them is Sharon Dennis.

Dennis, whose been unhoused for nearly three years after being displaced from an assisted living facility, has survived heatwaves in the past.

Skid Row, which is considered a heat island, has the highest concentration of homeless people in LA County.

The Midnight Mission has set up a makeshift cooling center with an ongoing water distribution, making it one of the few areas where homeless people can seek shade and water in Skid Row.
