DEATH VALLEY, Calif. — In California’s Death Valley, temperatures recently reached 129 degrees, just five degrees shy of the world record, also recorded in Death Valley in 1913.

Exposure to extreme temperatures can lead to severe health consequences like heat stroke, but that has not stopped tourists from flocking to the National Park hoping to experience record breaking temperatures.

Though the century old record remains for now, experts say the climate crisis will increase temperatures in the area in coming years, so a new world-record may not be far off.
