Those seeking a fun way to kick off spring should head on over to Wilmington between April 6 and 10 to attend the North Carolina Azalea Festival this year.
Azaleas hold special meaning in North Carolina. This native flower grows throughout the state, adding bursts of color and life back into the region.
In Wilmington, azaleas bloom from mid-March through the month of April, when the nights are still cool, but the days are warm but not yet humid. That's also perfect weather for a festival. With that in mind, the North Carolina Azalea Festival was born.
Starting 75 years ago, the festival brings together the community and visitors alike looking to take in the springtime blooms around the area and take part in the festival’s events.
While enjoying the festival, check out the azaleas and other beautiful blooms in the gardens that started the whole event to begin with, including the Airlie Gardens, Orton Gardens and Greenfield Gardens.
The Sunshine State does not fall short in the exotic blooms department. With warm weather year-round, it always feels like springtime… at least, us folks living in the northern half of the country see it that way.
However, there is one notable event that lures in many tourists each spring: the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival.
Visitors of all ages can marvel at the ornate topiaries made to resemble your favorite Disney characters, all while appreciating the blooms and greenery used to make them.
