You may have heard that “it’s so hot outside, you can fry an egg on the sidewalk.”
First off, gross! Second, it’s not as easy as it may sound, as Spectrum News Chief Meteorologist John Davitt in New York City found out.
An egg needs to reach a temperature of 160 degrees for it to become fully cooked. It is nearly impossible for the sidewalk to heat up that much because the concrete is a poor absorber of heat.
