LOS ANGELES — Two new laws went into effect on New Year’s Day, aiming to protect actors, performers, and their estates from unauthorized artificial intelligence use.
The new laws, effective immediately, prohibit the creation of AI-generated replicas of performers without consent. They also grant the estates of deceased actors the right to sue over unapproved uses of their likeness.
This legislative move marks a significant step in regulating artificial intelligence, particularly in California, home to both the entertainment industry and major tech companies driving AI innovation.
