LOS ANGELES — Currently under construction at the California Science Center is the new Samuel Oschin Air and Space which will feature space shuttle Endeavour displayed in upright launch position, a first for any facility outside of NASA.
The Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center will tell the story of mankind’s exploration of space through over a hundred objects and displays with shuttle Endeavour as the centerpiece.
California Science Center President and CEO Jeffrey Rudolph says the “Go for Stack” project fulfills a three-decades long dream of displaying the shuttle in upright launch configuration for the public and will take six months to complete following the milestone placement of shuttle’s aft skirts.
The space shuttle program ran from 1981 to 2011 and was an important phase in aerospace technology and space exploration following the earlier Mercury, Gemini and Apollo space programs.
