PASADENA, Calif. — Like soccer, a game called “kubb” is played on a pitch. But the lawn-game-like sport doesn’t involve a ball.
Kubb uses batons and rectangle or square shaped pieces called “kubbs.”
West Coast champion team member Julian Petrillo said the object of the game is to simply, “…throw the round ones at the square ones. It’s about as hard as that.”
Dozens of teams play in South Pasadena and the Los Angeles area. LA Kubb Club Commission, John Petterson said the club started about eight years ago with just a handful of teams, but at the most recent local competition about 75 people showed up.
