LOS ANGELES — SoFi Stadium is missing fans on game days, but for the "stadium voice" of the Los Angeles Rams, the hype doesn't stop.
“Hard to get the cardboard cutouts excited,” Sam Lagana joked.
What You Need To Know
- The L.A. Rams take on the Miami Dolphins Sunday, November 1
- L.A. returns to SoFi Stadium on November 15 for a home game
- Sam Lagana is the "stadium voice" for the Rams
- SoFi is still closed to the public due to COVID-19 restrictions
Calling plays for 70,000 empty seats might seem pointless, but Lagana explained that his job remains the same.
“We’re going to deliver the same game day excellence, whether that’s on our video boards, in our announcing," he said.
Lagana is treating games this season as a dress rehearsal. So it’s business as usual on game day as he works alongside his producer, Chadwick Richardson, calling out the plays.
As the Rams break in their new house, Lagana spends time getting used to his new perch as well — from the largest video board in professional sports to a new view. All that’s missing is the pulse of one big family.
"We’re working to the fact that you feel the same energy," he said. "The game doesn’t change, and that’s where you derive your energy from."
For now, Lagana and the Rams keep performing as if SoFi is full of life, so that when fans are allowed in this stadium for the first time, there's no question that this is the Rams' house.
