SAN DIEGO, Calif. — About a dozen Dodgers' hats, face masks, and jerseys can be seen around the railing of the Altitude Sky Lounge in San Diego.

Longtime Dodger fan Frank Gutierrez and his family are gathered together, not with their eyes pointed at the television, but rather down at Petco Park to catch their boys in blue take on the San Diego Padres live.

While baseball parks across the country remain closed to fans due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there are several places left in the United States where fans can still catch a live baseball game from above.

Altitude Sky Lounge is the only one in Southern California.

“It’s awesome and I’m gonna admit it feels like a Dodger game here," Gutierrez said. “Just seeing the game, it’s great. You get to see when they hit a home run. I get to see the pitchers, the batting.”

Altitude general manager Jeffrey Burg said that after being closed for 104 days, he and his staff were eager to reopen.

Even with a few guidelines in place, including reduced capacity, mask-wearing until seated, ordering food along with beverages, and physical distancing, he believes they've been able to provide guests a unique baseball experience.

“People stayed in their homes for so long, pent up, wanting to get out and see a baseball game, I think, to get back to some sense of normality to their lives," Burg said. "We’re being able to do that in a very safe, controlled environment.”

The hotel offers what they call a "Take Me Up to the Ballgame" package that includes hotel accommodations, a food and beverage credit, and a view that never gets old.

Burg says the plan is to extend the offer into the postseason, when San Diego hosts the American League Division and Championship Series.

For fans like Gutierrez, it was a welcome change of scenery and a special opportunity to root for his home team.

"It's live baseball," he said with a smile. "You can't beat that."
