ECHO PARK, CA— Every year, thousands of fans come to Chavez Ravine to watch the Dodgers play and, of course, to get their hands on a world-famous Dodger Dog.

On “Dollar Dodger Dog” promotional night, fans are in for a special treat — with all hot dogs sold for just $1.

Two die-hard fans in attendance at this year’s promotion, took it upon themselves to collect as many hot dogs as possible and give them out to those in need.

“Our goal was to get 100 hot dogs,” said Frankie Mercado, better known as Hiccups the Clown. “One hundred hot dogs and we head out to Skid Row, buy some ketchup, some napkins, and distribute them.”

Mercado and Moniq Guerra, or “Blue Lipz” as she is widely known, believe that their outreach work can help bring attention to the good done by Dodgers fans across Southern California.

“There’s more to us than what you hear on the news when something bad happens,” Mercado explained. “It’s called human kindness, connecting with other humans regardless of situations[and] regardless of teams.”

His annual dodger dog delivery has gotten the attention of the team itself, which now helps him sponsor a monthly pizza party for the homeless on Skid Row. Mercado’s work began simply, just one clown delivering hot dogs and a smile.
