WHITTIER, Calif. — Diving into the water is a fresh challenge for La Serna High School senior, Jordyn Anderson.
Anderson grew up a volleyball player — her athletic strong suit on land and on the court. But as she'll be the first to tell you, she has always loved challenging herself with something new.

“Going into high school I just wanted to be the best version of myself. I was pushing myself to do whatever I can possible to make that happen and along the way I fell in love with different activities, different sports," Anderson said. "[Water polo] is fun because it's totally different than what I'm used to."
In addition to trying her hand at a new sport, Anderson continues to compete in her school's volleyball program, club volleyball, volunteer work and a rigorous class schedule.
That desire to take on a full plate and excel stems from a deeply-rooted competitive spirit.
“[My parents] always say, 'Everything is a competition,' — in the house, with my brother, with my friends — everything is a competition," she said with a a smile. "Having that competitive drive has always helped me to push through.”
However, despite that competitiveness, she's also a teammate that any coach would want on their roster.
“I think of somebody who brings a positive attitude, who is friendly with everyone," her coach, John Pringle said.“I think of somebody who brings a positive attitude, who is friendly with everyone," her coach, John Pringle said. "I know that if anything is going on, Jordyn brings a good attitude, so it’s gonna be a good day.”
Anderson is described as a student who shines in and out of the classroom, one whose competitive spirit sets her apart and makes her the perfect example of a scholar athlete.
