Applications are now open for the Rochester Fire Department Civil Service Exam.

Anyone who wants to become a Rochester firefighter must take the exam and those who score among the highest will be considered for the upcoming recruit class or future opportunities.

“Our Rochester Firefighters are the first responders our community relies on in the face of fires, car accidents, medical emergencies, and many other critical situations. To those with the same commitment to service, I call you to apply to be part of this respected, hard-working team,” said Mayor Malik Evans.

“As a firefighter, the challenge ahead of you is no match for the team beside you,” said Rochester Fire Chief Stefano Napolitano. “I’m incredibly proud of the men and women of our fire department. We’re seeking dedicated, driven and collaborative individuals to step up and serve alongside them.”

The city says firefighter salaries start at around $54,000 per year and can increase to $95,000 within a five-year tenure. City firefighters also receive competitive benefits, including free healthcare and a pension plan.

Anyone interested can apply on governmentjobs.com by May 27.

The exam will be given on June 28.
