LOS ANGELES — The Westside of Los Angeles is in the works of getting new license plate readers and more patrols as part of efforts to improve public safety, officials announced Monday.

Councilwoman Traci Park launched her "A Safer 11 for a Better 11" initiative alongside Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell and LA County District Attorney Nathan Hochman.

She called for 100 automated license plate readers to be installed across her 11th District, spanning from Brentwood to Venice and down to Pacific Palisades.

Starting in January, Venice Beach will receive a dedicated weekly park ranger patrols. Additionally, the councilwoman will seek a $200,000 for LAPD overtime and $100,000 for tree trimming services.

"This public safety package is about taking bold, innovative action to protect our neighborhoods and ensure that every resident feels safe and secure," Park said. "Our objective is straightforward — to reclaim our neighborhoods by delivering the safety our constituents deserve."

Park is slated to introduce motions Tuesday to effectuate her plan. Among the motions, there will be one aimed at improving security at libraries located in her district.

"Safety is the foundation of everything we do," Park said. "A Safer 11 is the cornerstone of a Better 11, and today's initiatives mark a transformative step forward for our community."

McDonnell said they were proud to collaborate with Park and find solutions that make a "real difference in people's everyday lives."

Hochman added they are sending a clear message to criminals: "For far too long they believed they could act with impunity. That stops today."
