Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. — About six weeks ago gas was shutoff, then the electricity was powered off in some areas of Rancho Palos Verdes.
Utility companies cited continued land movement and public safety as reasons for the shutoffs. Meanwhile, homeowners who faced the shutoffs, including Sheridan MacKnight who has a home in Portuguese Bend, have been putting in solutions to help get them off the grid, racking up costs.
Now with $5 million allocated by Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn, Rancho Palos Verdes has set up an application process where effected homeowners can apply to receive up to $10,000 each.
The city says once an application is received, homeowners can expect to receive funds in about a week.
