LOS ANGELES — People living in the Portuguese Bend neighborhood in Rancho Palos Verdes have been notified their power may be shutoff because of the land movement in the area, but the power remains on for now.
Southern California Edison spokesperson Reggie Kumar says the utility will strive to provide 72-hour notice for any power shutoff, but also warns power shutoffs may happen without warning should safety be affected.
Earlier this week, some homes in the neighborhood had the gas shutoff.
Jim Zumwalt, a man who bought a home on Cinnamon Lane in 1996, says he will adjust and deal with whatever is coming and has no plans to leave.
Rancho Palos Verdes City Manager Ara Mihranian says city services, such as the sewer system, would also be effected by a potential power shutdown.
He also says permitting processes have been modified and sped up and fees have been waived for residents working to convert their power sources.
For those looking to sell their home, Berkshire Hathaway real estate agent Dana Graham says buyers are still looking in the area.
“Yeah, they are. They’re heavily discounted because somebody has to be willing to take the risk,” said Graham.
Graham says the homes are discounted 40% to 50%.
