LOS ANGELES — Deputies at the LA County Sheriff’s Department’s Transit Services Bureau brushed up on de-escalation training using a simulator called MILO, or Multiple Interactive Learning Objectives.

Crisis Response Instructor Deputy Joseph Barker said it is a critical part of their preparation.

He teaches the deputies active listening skills to de-escalate charged situations.
