WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Republican Congressional Committee is targeting 26 U.S. House seats currently held by Democrats that it hopes to turn red in 2026. Among them are the seats currently held by Florida Congressmen Darren Soto and Jared Moskowitz.

What You Need To Know

  • Democratic Congressmen Darren Soto and Jared Moskowitz are on the NRCC's latest target list

  • Soto was re-elected in 2024 with over 55 percent of the vote, and Moskowitz with over 52 percent of the vote

  • The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee recently released its own list of 26 “frontline” Democrats in the House it is seeking to defend

In the 2024 election, Florida Republicans kept 20 seats in the U.S. House, and Democrats kept eight. But, the campaign arm for House Republicans is already seeking to gain two more seats in 2026.

The NRCC says it is targeting Florida’s 9th Congressional District in Central Florida, currently held by Soto, and Florida’s 23rd Congressional District in South Florida held by Moskowitz.

In a statement an NRCC spokeswoman said, “... Moskowitz and Soto continue to prioritize their far-left agenda that makes life more expensive and less safe, and Floridians will kick them to the curb because of it.”

Soto was re-elected to his seat with over 55 percent of the vote in 2024, and Moskowitz with over 52 percent of the vote.

Spectrum News asked both if they had any comment on being place on the NRCC’s list.

"The Hispanic community, we're predominantly Puerto Rican around here, my fellow brothers and sisters, we're swing voters. We always have been," Soto said. "We have to continue to make the case. A lot of Hispanics who voted for Trump voted for him to improve costs, and what we've seen is the exact opposite," he said.

“Good luck to them,” Moskowitz told Spectrum News.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee recently released its own list of 26 “frontline” Democrats in the House it is seeking to defend in competitive districts in 2026. None are located in Florida.

A special election is taking place April 1 to fill Florida's 1st Congressional District seat vacated by Republican Matt Gaetz and Florida's 6th Congressional District seat vacated by Republican Mike Waltz.
