LOS ANGELES — Things are already busy at the giant Los Angeles County Ballot Processing Center in the City of Industry, a location that was once a Fry’s electronics store. A week before Election Day, LA County Registrar-Recorder Dean Logan and Sheriff Robert Luna gave a play-by-play on the steps involved in making sure that every vote is cast safely and counted correctly.

While Luna said there are no credible threats in LA County to polling locations or staff, he said security is and continues to be a major issue.

“I’m concerned about pre-election, election day and post-election,” he said.

His department has been extensively preparing in different ways, including large-scale collaborations with other agencies, working on what he called civil disturbance type training.

As for security at the facility itself, K-9 units scan every box of ballots brought into the center, which is staffed with hundreds of seasonal workers and open to observers who wish to see the process for themselves.
