LOS ANGELES — On Nov. 5, voters in Los Angeles will have the chance to decide on creating an independent commission to determine Council district boundaries under LA City Charter Amendment DD.
Currently, the redistricting process is controlled by City Council members and occurs every 10 years, after the release of U.S. Census data.
Calls for an independent redistricting commission gained momentum in 2022 after leaked audio of a conversation between three LA councilmembers and a labor leader discussing how to draw district maps for political gain.
